Underestanding the GLOW Program: Embrace the Warmth and Maximize Your Experience

Understanding how light therapy works for everyone can be tricky, while the concept is simple and we get near-infrared light from the sun applying it through various protocols can provide slight differences in the experience and results you feel.

In this article, we will discuss the differences in the protocols and focus primarily on the GLOW program which users find particularly soothing. It’s important to understand however in warmer climates the device can get quite warm and some people find this uncomfortable while others enjoy this warming effect. The key is using it for what feels most comfortable for you.

The Comforting Warmth of the GLOW Program

The GLOW protocol is a standard, high-intensity protocol, meaning it operates at full intensity. When using it, it's common to feel a warm sensation on your head. Many users find this warmth soothing, describing it as a relaxing part of the experience. In colder climates, particularly during the winter months in northern America, the warmth can be especially welcome. It helps create a comforting balance with the cooler room temperature and enhances the overall calming effect.

However, not everyone experiences warmth in the same way. While some people love it, others might find it too intense or uncomfortable, particularly in warmer environments.

If you’re using custom protocols, which allow you to adjust the intensity, the same cautions apply. Higher intensity settings may still result in the same warm sensation, so it’s important to monitor your comfort and adjust as needed.

Factors That Influence Your Experience

Several factors can affect how you perceive the warmth of the GLOW program. These factors are natural and vary from person to person, creating a unique experience for each user:

  • Head shape: The shape of your head can influence airflow under the helmet. Some head shapes might experience more limited airflow, resulting in a slightly warmer sensation compared to others.
  • Hair type and thickness: People with thicker or curly hair may notice more warmth because their hair can trap heat more easily, while those with thinner or straight hair may feel less heat.
  • Climate and room temperature: If you live in a warmer region, or you’re using the GLOW program in a space where the temperature is high, you may perceive the device as being hotter than someone in a cooler climate or air-conditioned environment.

Tips for Staying Comfortable

To ensure you enjoy the GLOW program to its fullest, it’s important to pay attention to your comfort level. Here are a few tips to help you stay comfortable and get the most out of your session, especially if you’re using the full-intensity program:

  1. Reduce the time of the program in one sitting: Typically sessions last between 5 - 15 minutes on average but when using the GLOW program this means the device gets warmer. If you find the full session uncomfortable, we suggest pausing the protocol resting the device upside down to let it cool, and continuing the session after 5 minutes.
  2. Use in a cooler Environment: This is a simple method to keeping the device cooler, if you have an air-conditioned room or perhaps it’s colder outside and you can open a window and sit beside it, then this will help keep the device at a lower temperature and therefore there may be no need to take breaks.
  3. Listen to your body: The easiest way to ensure comfort is how you do with everything in life, listen to yourself. You know if you’re uncomfortable and if this is the case, stop, pause the session take a break, and go again or talk with the provider and maybe adjust the program settings. You are always in control and this non-invasive technology is to aid your cognition. Ensure you are comfortable when using it!

Know When to Stop

While the warmth is safe and normal, it’s crucial to recognize when it becomes too much. Prolonged exposure to high heat, especially at full intensity, may not be suitable for everyone. If the heat becomes uncomfortable, stop using the device and allow your body to cool down before resuming or lowering the intensity.

For those assisting others with the GLOW program, particularly someone who may not be able to fully communicate how they’re feeling, limit their exposure to full intensity and ensure they are comfortable throughout the session.

Comfort Is Key: Listen to Your Body

Everyone’s experience with the GLOW program is unique, and there’s no right or wrong way to feel. Some users find the warmth soothing, while others may prefer a cooler sensation. The most important thing is to listen to your body. By following your intuition, taking breaks when necessary, and adjusting the intensity to match your comfort level, you can fully enjoy the benefits of the GLOW program while staying safe.
